Teaching Under 18s in Group Classes
Although I do teach children, as the parent/guardian of the child, please read through the points below which are all mentioned due to previous experiences of teaching children to crochet within a group.
Since you know your child best you will be a able decide whether my classes are suitable for them.
- Any child or person under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult, regardless of whether the adult is taking part in the course or not.
- I do not teach children under 9 years of age.
- Children cannot attend the class unattended.
- I am not qualified to teach students with severe disabilities and learning difficulties.
- My classes are aimed at adults and for the most part, all my classes are filled with adult students.
- Each class is 2 hours long and involves following prepared class notes, watching demonstrations and then partaking in practical crochet work.
- My evening classes start at 7:30pm & finish at 9:30pm. Please consider whether this will affect your child – even my adult students can find this a little fatiguing after a day’s work!
- I teach a maximum of 8 students in a beginners’ class.
- My beginners classes are nearly always fully booked.
- I always aim to move around the class, spreading myself evenly, helping each student in turn, so sometimes students that need more help will have to wait until I have worked my way back round to them.
- Students are therefore expected to engage in a certain level of autonomy, working along with the class notes & following instructions.
- Since learning to crochet is mostly muscle memory and repetition, I always set “homework” to be completed before the start of the next class.
- Students understand that during the learning process we make mistakes and it takes repetition and a willingness to try again, in good faith, to progress.
