Chevrons & Ripples is a four-week crochet course (4 x 2 hour sessions), running Friday afternoons.
On this course we’ll be exploring how increases and decreases can be used to create fabric that zig-zags and undulates.
I have a selection of different stitch sequences that showcase this popular type of stitch pattern that can be used for blankets, scarves, bags and tops. For the first two weeks we’ll be exploring the techniques and “rules” and for the last two weeks we will be working on a larger project of your choice.
You can keep it simple and follow one of my patterns for a cowl or blanket, or have a go at making something custom sized.
You’ll be learning how to:
✧ work flat fabric, crocheting in turned rows.
✧ make different types of increases and decreases.
✧ keep edges straight.
✧ add borders to raw edges.
✧ straighten out or fill a zig-zag edge (optional).
✧ work and adjust pattern repeats (optional).
✧ modify a chevron pattern (optional).
Students must be able to make basic crochet stitches such as:
✧ sc (US) / dc (UK).
✧ dc (US) / tr (UK).
✧ slip stitching.
✧ chaining.
This is a great follow on course for my beginners or anyone that wants to perfect their existing techniques and/or simply explore new stitches in a supportive environment.
All other techniques will be taught in class.
Not suitable for complete beginners.
Materials required to practise the stitch sequences:
✧ 3x 50g balls of cotton dk – such as Yarnsmiths DK Cotton in 3 different colours.
✧ 3.5mm and 4mm hooks.
✧ scissors.
✧ wool or tapestry needle.
✧ reading glasses if needed.
I will have 50g balls of cotton yarn available in limited colours @ £2 each.
I will also have Clover Soft Touch Hooks @£4 each.
In the first week we will discuss what kind or yarn and how much you may need for your chosen project, so you don't need to worry about that to start with.
