I've created a video delving into the reasons why some people's crochet stitches are short(er) and why merely opting for a larger hook doesn't always
Do you feel like your stitches are coming up short? Or perhaps your fininished fabric often lacks drape? This could be due to how you are forming your stitches rather than hook size & yarn thickness.
Many crocheters assume that using a bigger hook will automatically result in taller stitches. Of course, this will affect the overall size of the stitch but it won't change the stitch height to width ratio. The key to taller crochet stitches is in consciously pulling up the loops "long", during stitch formation to achieve the desired height.
Does it matter if my stitches are "short"? Well, it depends on what you are trying to achieve. You may find that your finished fabric always lacks drape or that you struggle to match designer's gauge in patterns.
If you find yourself struggling with short stitches, this video could provide the valuable insights needed to refine your technique, hone your skills and improve the drape of your fabric.
